For a while there, the prices of used motorcycles were obnoxiously close to new models, but thankfully, that bubble seems to have burst, and the prices have become a bit more reasonable. And though some models remain expensive, regardless of age, the one style that retains a lot of value for the price is the used cruiser.

The excellent news here is that Harley-Davidson and Indian don’t necessarily have a monopoly on great used cruisers. Though those brands certainly have some incredible choices, some of which are featured in this article, other companies, like Honda, Ducati, and Triumph, have also produced quality bikes in the same style, over the last couple of decades. 10 2015 Ducati Diavel Titanium

Lest we forget, cruisers come in all shapes and sizes. The vast majority of them may resemble a stereotypical Harley Sportster, but companies like Ducati don’t feel the need to copy other brands to be able to sell their bikes. And so it is the case with the Diavel. It is a cruiser unlike any other in looks, and certainly in performance.

In typical Ducati fashion, the design of the bike is nothing if not startling. The power figures are also quite impressive, and considering that the original MSRP was north of $20k, you’re definitely getting a bargain for this used Italian beauty.

9 2019 Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 1200

Used Price: $9,295

On the traditional side of things, which we’ll dip into on more than one occasion, we have perhaps the ultimate modern cruiser with vintage vibes. In the last couple of years, Harley-Davidson has begun phasing out the old, air-cooled Sportster lineup of bikes, due to heavy emissions restrictions in Europe and elsewhere.

For better or worse, these are the times we live in now, and so manufacturers have to adapt if they are to continue selling their bikes. But when it comes to a pure cruiser experience, we may never get anything like the Sporster 1200 ever again. They weren’t incredibly powerful, but they were cool, fun, and the only choice for many an urban rider.

8 2022 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT

Used Price: $7,499

The youngest bike on this list may also be its most valuable, despite it being on the more expensive side. Honda has a long history of Rebel models. A few years back, they’d done away with the weak and outdated Rebel 250, in favor of two brand-new models. The Rebel 300 and 500 were instant hits for the Japanese brand.

They were sleek, relatively powerful, and inexpensive to boot. But it was when the 1100cc model came out that things went into overdrive. While the smaller versions were fine, they were mostly considered beginner bikes. The Rebel 1100 opened up a whole new market for Honda, and the DCT version went even further by courting riders who liked the cruiser esthetic, but were not fond of the manual transmission.

7 2014 Honda Fury

Used Price: $7,295

The Honda Fury, on the other hand, was the brand’s attempt at stealing riders from Harley, wholesale. Designed to look like a custom chopper, a motorcycle category that, for a short period of time, had taken over the collective imagination of every biker in America, the Fury was nothing if not striking. Say what you will about metric cruisers, the one thing that the Honda Fury wasn’t, was boring.

6 2016 Triumph Rocket III

Used Price: $6,999

Much like the Ducati Diavel, Triumph’s Rocket III aims to be as different from traditional cruisers as possible. Blessed with an unhealthy amount of horsepower and torque, the British bike is an exercise in overindulgence. And though the new generation of the Rocket III is a sleek, powerful machine, with a fit and finish befitting the premium price, the 2016 Rocket was ungainly, awkward, and portly. Which is to say, it was full of charm, uniqueness, and character. And that’s perhaps why we love it just a tiny bit more than the new one.

5 2018 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster

Used Price: $6,999

Triumph’s other cruiser offering is a lot more sensible and traditional. The modern iteration of the Bonneville Speedmaster fits right along with Triumph’s other modern classics. Utilizing some of the same components, and the same charming twin-cylinder engine as the Bobber, the Speedmaster looks like a typical cruiser, as viewed through a thoroughly British lens. Everything about it is stately and collected. But once you roll on the throttle, that deep growl lets loose, and things begin to cook right along.

4 2020 Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883

Used Price: $6,799

The smaller Harley-Davidson Sportster is an even better modern cruiser than the 1200. The Iron 883, though not fast or maneuverable, came with gobs of personality. We were truly saddened when it was revealed that this version would be discontinued. And though the modern, liquid-cooled Sportster and Nightster models are tons of fun, nothing will beat the raw experience of the old-school, air-cooled V-twin in the Iron 883.

3 2017 Yamaha Bolt R-Spec

Used Price: $6,499

The Yamaha Bolt R-Spec, subjectively, is the most successful metric cruiser when it comes to echoing American-style bikes. It’s a no-frills affair that focuses on delivering a customizable platform for riders, full of great noise, tons of torque, and muscle characteristics. If you squint a bit, it certainly does remind you of a Sportster. And in a time when Harley’s air-cooled V-twins are slowly dying out, Yamaha continues to deliver the goods in an affordable package, regardless of whether you buy new, or used.

There have been plenty of European and Japanese brands that have attempted to conquer the American cruiser market. Some are noticeably absent from this article, as they don’t seem to possess any used models that are worth mentioning, regardless of how cheap they may be. But if you have a chance to get your hands on a Moto Guzzi California, you owe it to yourself to at least give it a test ride.

It’s a fantastic all-around bike, that will plaster a smile on your face, and keep it there for the remainder of your ride. It’s not particularly great at anything tangible, but boy does it have charm to spare. And for less than $6k, owning a bike this unique and fun, is a small price to pay.

1 2016 Indian Scout Sixty

Used Price: $5,999

Harley-Davidson may boast the fact that it has been in continual production for over a century, but Indian may end up being the better cruiser manufacturer. Thanks to Polaris’s revival of the seminal American brand, Indian bikes have never been more popular. And when Victory’s Octane became the bones of the new Scout, Indian’s most popular, and cheapest, bike was born.

Though Indian does have its share of nostalgia-bating, the brand’s focus on modern technology and powerful features edges it slightly ahead of Harley, due to the Milwaukee brand’s seemingly terminal fear of moving beyond their tried and true cruiser models.
