A Carbon Fiber Shell Is Standard For The Alpinestars Supertech R10
The Supertech R10 has a multi-layer shell with top-spec materials. There’s a high-density carbon outer layer, followed by a uni-directional carbon composite layer, an aramid fiber later, and finally, a fiberglass layer. Aside from these, you get an eight-piece EPS foam layer on the inside for utmost impact absorption. The foams vary in thickness depending on the location. The result? All the safety ratings you can ask for, as the R10 is FIM, DOT, and ECE 22.06 certified. Our only gripe is the 1,540-gram (3.39-pound) weight. That’s roughly 100 grams more than the AGV Pista GP RR and the HJC RPHA 1.
This is topped by eleven ventilation points and a bespoke padding system. You can find seven intake vents (three in the chin area and four in the head area) along with four exhaust vents (two on the chin and two near the ear area). As for the padding, the helmet features the A-Head fitment system. It’s a patented Alpinestars-only technology that comprises four pins to help you change how the helmet sits on your head. The company claims it only takes a minute and there are virtually unlimited fitment possibilities.
Kickass Aerodynamics Up The Overall Feel
Aerodynamics has become quite important for motorcycling. So Alpinestars has made sure it incorporates some for its flagship helmet. You get two side wings to improve stability and reduce drag, while there’s a spoiler outback for an aerodynamic shape. If you’re a track enthusiast, the company will also sell you a race spoiler. It’s larger than the standard one, clamps to the same patented points, and helps the air flow directly over your suit’s hump.
Once you put it on, you’d also appreciate the new viewing shield. It has a special shape (with a dip near the eyeline) to allow a maximum field of vision, with 220 degrees of lateral and 57 degrees of vertical visibility. A quick-release system helps you change tints. You can pick between transparent, medium smoke, dark smoke, mirror silver, and photochromatic, where only the first is supplied in the box.
