2019-23 Volkswagen Passat, Golf and Arteon recalled due to fire risk

The Volkswagen Passat, Golf and Arteon have been recalled after it was discovered a manufacturing defect could cause a brake fluid leak and potential fire.

Volkswagen Group Australia has recalled 5997 examples of its 2019-2023 Volkswagen Passat, Golf and Arteon models, due to a manufacturing error that could cause the vehicles to catch fire.

The affected vehicles are stamped (and were sold between) 2019 and 2023.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing issue, the heat shield between the brake master cylinder and the exhaust may have been incorrectly fitted.”

“As a result, a connection to the brake fluid reservoir could melt.

“If this occurs, brake fluid may leak on to a hot exhaust there which could lead to a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and/or damage property.”

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 5997 vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.

Volkswagen Australia advises owners of affected vehicles to contact their preferred Volkswagen dealership to schedule an appointment to have the vehicle inspected and rectified, free of charge.

Owners can also contact Volkswagen Australia by phone on 1800 504 076 or via email at recalls@myvw.com.au for more information.
