CFMoto’s Answer For The Yamaha Tenere 700 Is Around The Corner

[ad_1]

Summary

  • CFMoto has released design registrations for the production version of the MT-X concept.
  • It fboasts a bash-friendly design with motocross-inspired elements, handguards, luggage rack, spoke wheels, and a flat single-piece saddle.
  • A KTM-derived 799cc, twin-cylinder engine powers the MT, delivering more power than competitors such as the Yamaha Tenere 700 and Suzuki V-Strom 800DE.

Chinese bikemaker CFMoto presented some solid motorcycles at last year’s EICMA. Among the highlights was the MT-X concept–a hardcore middleweight adventure bike with a primary focus on off-roading rather than touring. Fast-forward to today, the company has released the design registrations of its production version. They reveal a few notable details, all enough to make off-road enthusiasts excited and scare the key players of the segment.

The CFMoto 800 MT-X Boasts A Bash-Friendly Design

One look at the filings, and you’ll know the MT-X is built for off-roading. Up top, there’s a motocross-inspired fender, flanked by stanchion protectors and a windscreen. Between these lies CFMoto’s distinct multi-element LED headlight already seen on the existing 800 MT (or Ibex 800 as called in America). This is topped by muscular bodywork which incorporates the radiator shrouds. We can also spot a burly engine bash plate, although the material remains unknown. Other notable off-road elements include:

  • Handguards
  • Luggage rack
  • Spoke wheels
  • Center stand
  • Flat single-piece saddle

As for features, the rearview of the motorcycle reveals a large rectangular instrument cluster. It’s a portrait-oriented display, unlike the 800 MT’s landscape-oriented unit. What all does it incorporate, you ask? For that, we’ll have to go back to the MT-X concept bike. Its TFT had smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, voice commands, display modes, traction control, switchable ABS, and ride modes. Only time will tell what makes the cut in the production version.

Under the skin, the 800 MT-X is quite familiar. There’s a 799cc, twin-cylinder powerhouse derived from CFMoto’s long-time partner, KTM. Though the output is unavailable right now, we know the existing 800 MT has 94 horsepower and 56.8 pound-feet. Even if that output remains unchanged, the X would be firmly in the middleweight ADV battle. After all, these figures are considerably more than the 72-HP Yamaha Tenere 700 and the 83-HP Suzuki V-Strom 800DE.

As for underpinnings, we can clearly see a tubular chassis and subframe. This is partnered with long-travel suspension–USD forks and a monoshock–along with what looks like a 21/17-inch spoke wheel combination. The concept had KYB forks and an Ohlins shock, although that doesn’t seem like the case here. Meanwhile, a closer look reveals dual discs up top with Brembo calipers and a rectangular swingarm (somewhat reminiscent of the KTM 790 Adventure).

With design filings already out, there’s no question the Chinese reveal is around the corner. But what remains unclear is the ADV’s arrival in international markets like Britain, Europe, and America. Whenever that happens, just know the MT-X will put on an epic fight against all popular names. Whether it’s the above-mentioned Japanese duo or European offerings like the Aprilia Tuareg 660 and the KTM 790 Adventure.
