2024 Toyota bZ4X Price: Base Model vs. Fully Loaded - SUV VEHICLE

2024 Toyota bZ4X Price: Base Model vs. Fully Loaded

[ad_1]

The Toyota bZ4X, launched in the U.S. in April 2022, is the first vehicle in the Japanese automaker’s bZ (short for “Beyond Zero”) line-up of new-age BEVs. After over a year of quietness following a recall announced shortly after its release, it has received its first round of updates.

The Toyota bZ4X is longer and wider than the Toyota RAV4, which is due for a full makeover, but it is still a compact SUV that you can drive in the city with ease. Based on e-TNGA, Toyota’s dedicated BEV platform, the bZ4X features a sleek exterior, the key to which is a hammerhead shark-inspired front fascia. The bespoke electric SUV has an interior that lays a high level of emphasis on space and driver-friendliness. Since the bZ4X is still fresh on the market, Toyota didn’t alter its exterior or interior design.

Toyota manufactures the U.S.-spec 2024 bZ4X at the Motomachi Plant located in Toyota City (Aichi Prefecture), Japan. The company expects the updated EV to begin rolling into dealerships by the end of January. It has already announced the pricing, specifications, and equipment, and this article gives an overview of the same along with the details about the revisions.

The Toyota bZ4X Gains New Features, But Comes With A Price Hike

The 2024 model year update to the Toyota bZ4X brings incremental revisions to give you more convenience and safety. Obviously, these enhancements come at the cost of increased prices. The bZ4X is not eligible for a federal tax credit, as the bZ4X is not completely built in the U.S.

The 2024 Toyota bZ4X has the same trim structure as the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, which is still on sale. It is available in only two trims – XLE and Limited, and both have changes in the new model.

Previously, the charging cable Toyota shipped the bZ4X with only supported Level One AC chargers. You required a different cable to benefit from Level Two AC chargers. Now, the company has replaced that cable with a new one that supports both Level One and Level Two AC chargers. Thus, unlike in the 2023 bZ4X’s case, you don’t need to purchase a new charging cable and keep two charging cables for the 2024 bZ4X.

The seven-inch digital instrument cluster of the 2024 bZ4X shows new charging details. It displays the estimated time required to charge to 80 percent and the estimated distance the vehicle can cover with the available charging level. Another tech upgrade in the new model is Advanced Park, which is essentially an enhanced version of hands-free parking. In addition to the parking sensors, it uses 360-degree cameras to automate parking. You can use this feature for perpendicular parking and even parallel parking.

The Base Trim Of The bZ4X Is $1,070 More Expensive Than The Outgoing Model

The Toyota bZ4X was already much more expensive than the VW ID.4, and following the 2024 model year update, that price gap has further widened. The bZ4X XLE’s prices have gone up by $1,070, while the bZ4X Limited has received only a small price hike of $480.

The 2024 bZ4X’s prices range from $43,070 to $49,260, excluding a $1,350 delivery, processing, and handling fee. The prices of Volkswagen’s 2023 ID.4, which is eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit, start at $38,995 and go up to $55,245, excluding a $1,295 destination charge. Volkswagen plans to announce the prices of the updated 2024 VW ID.4 in the Spring.

The bZ4X isn’t nearly as big of a seller as the RAV4. In 2023, Toyota sold 434,943 copies of the RAV4 in the U.S., but only 9,329 examples of the bZ4X. The electric SUV is significantly pricier, but an even bigger factor limiting its growth is its extremely limited availability.

According to a report from Reuters, Toyota doesn’t plan to ramp up production to a high level before 2025. Thus, it cannot offer the bZ4X in too many trims like a regular production model, and to ensure that you see it is worth the steep prices, it equips the model with plenty of premium features in all the configurations.

The base 2024 bZ4X rolls in style with stuff like 18-inch alloy wheels, bi-LED projector headlights, and LED tail lights. For convenience, Toyota includes rain-sensing wipers, heated and power-folding ORVMs, and a height-adjustable power liftgate. A panoramic sunroof lets in plenty of sunlight during the day and lets you gaze at the starry skies at night.

Inside, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a wireless smartphone charger are part of the standard tech features. A dual-zone automatic climate control system, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, and a six-way adjustable front passenger seat are among the main standard comfort features. Heating for the front seats and steering wheel is available optionally.

The 2024 bZ4X packs a variety of safety features as well as standard, including a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), and a backup camera with a projected path. The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of premium advanced driver assistance systems is also part of the basic equipment:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB)
  • Full Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

The top-end 2024 bZ4X upgrades to 20-inch wheels for sportier styling and looks more sophisticated, too, thanks to multi-LED projector headlamps. Plus, if you want an even more dynamic look, you can fit it with a split roof spoiler optionally. Moreover, the power liftgate on the top-end model is a more advanced one with a kick sensor. A two-tone paintwork is available as part of the paid option.

Inside, the top model has heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel as part of the standard features for enhanced comfort. Auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, ambient lighting, digital key, etc., are among the main tech upgrades. You can make the interior even more comfortable with a front radiant foot-and-leg heater and heated rear seats, both of which are optional features. If you’re an audiophile, you’ll appreciate an available 9-speaker JBL audio system.

Thanks to a backup camera with dynamic grid lines and a 360-degree camera system, parking the fully loaded bZ4X is comparatively much easier. Additionally, the 2024 model year update has made it more convenient with Advanced Park. On the safety front, it adds Downhill Assist Control so that you don’t need to stress over manually braking in downhill situations.

Toyota has added a water-to-water heat exchanger and heating adjustment valve to increase the battery temperature of the bZ4X with the 2024 model year update. The battery’s thermal system improvements increase its temperature, leading to quicker DC charging in cold temperatures.

The base 2024 Toyota bZ4X is a front-wheel drive model with only one motor, which produces 201 horsepower and 196 pound-feet of torque. The 71.4 kWh battery pack that powers this motor supports charging at up to 7.6 kW on alternating current and 150 kW on direct current.

Using a Level Two charger, fully charging the 71.4 kWh battery pack from when the low battery alert shows takes approximately nine and a half hours. A 10-80 percent DC fast-charging session is a matter of just about 30 minutes. The base bZ4X’s EPA-est. range has remained the same after the MY2024 update – 252 miles.

Toyota has increased the peak DC charging input of the bZ4X’s 72.8 kWh battery pack from 100 kW to 150 kW with the 2024 model year update. This change has reduced its 10-80 percent DC fast-charging from approximately 60 minutes to about 35 minutes.

The maximum AC charging input is the same – 7.6 kW, so the minimum time required to fully charge from the low battery warning alert using a Level Two charger still takes about nine and a half hours. On a full charge, the fully loaded 2024 bZ4X can deliver the same EPA-est. range as the previous model – 222 miles.
