Update: ‘Specifications,’ ‘Features,’ and ‘Release Date’ sections updated.

The Mercedes EQE SUV has two AMG variants in the global market — 43 4MATIC and 53 4MATIC+, but only the latter is available in the U.S. market. It’s for this reason that the AMG offering does not have alphanumeric branding. The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV has arrived at U.S. dealerships and directly competes with the Tesla Model X Plaid.

Design & Interior

The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV has only subtle visual differences from the Mercedes EQE SUV. Yet, when I saw it in person, I immediately recognized it from its special faux radiator grille with chrome-finished, hot-stamped vertical struts and AMG inscription. I noticed that while the regular SUV has a three-pointed star logo on the hood, it featured an AMG emblem.

The body-colored wheel arch claddings and the 21-inch wheels in an exclusive design further help it stand out. 22-inch wheels are also available, but in my opinion, these black-colored 21 inchers look the best, and being smaller, they should offer a better ride quality.

The dark cabin goes well with the EV’s sporty theme, plus distinctive patterns and AMG branding in the upholstery further give a sense of exclusivity. AMG-specific functions in the displays and a dedicated AMG Dynamic Select button in the center console are also among the interior highlights.

Specifications

The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV sports two electric motors, one at each axle, producing 617 hp and 701 lb.-ft. of torque. It has a top speed of 137 mph. An AMG Dynamic Plus Package option raises the combined power and total torque to 677 hp and 738 lb.-ft., respectively. However, these increments are temporary, being available through a boost function. They increase the top speed to 149 mph and allow the EV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.

A 90.6 kWh battery pack consisting of ten modules with 360 lithium-ion pouch cells powers the motors. It supports charging at up to 9.6 kW (AC)/170 kW (DC). Charging from 10 to 100% SoC using an AC charger takes as little as 10.75 hours. Using a DC charger, it’s possible to go up from 10 to 80% SoC in 32 minutes. On a full charge, the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV delivers an EPA-est. range of 235 miles.

Price

The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV retails at USD 109,300 (excl. USD 1,150 destination charge) before options.

TopElectricSUV says

While the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV delivers solid performance and offers ample luxury, its low range limits its appeal as an all-rounder.
