2023 Ford F-150 recalled in Australia

A fault in the clock spring could cause steering wheel malfunctions, non-operative horns and a non-functioning driver’s airbag.

Ford Australia has recalled a further nine examples of its 2023 Ford F-150 citing issues with the steering wheel components, and comes as the American auto giant has previously recalled 443 models of the pick-up just weeks ago due to a steering fault.

This second recall notice refers to a potential fault with the vehicle’s clock spring electrical connection with the steering wheel, potentially affecting the airbag, horns and electrical systems.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “The clock spring electrical connection between the steering wheel airbag, horn and electrical systems may not have been welded to specification and possibly fail.

“It could result in a loss of steering wheel illumination, non-functioning steering wheel control switches, inoperative horn, and the airbag warning light will illuminate which may result in the driver’s airbag becoming inoperative.

“In the event of an accident, an airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.”

“None of the vehicles are with customers, and all will be inspected and repaired if necessary before being delivered. This recall is not related to the re-manufacturing process” a Ford Australia spokesperson told Drive.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the nine vehicles involved in the recall can be found here.

Ford Australia has advised F-150 owners the affected vehicles will be fixed prior to delivery once parts become available. Buyers that have already received their delivery will be notified in writing.
