Team Green has launched the new Ninja and Z in America as part of its 2024 lineup. They take over from the highly successful Ninja 400 and Z400 duo, with the aim to take the entry-level segment by storm.

Kawasaki has priced the Ninja 500 from $5,299–exactly the same as the 2023 Ninja 400. This makes the new bike one of the most bang-for-buck sub-500cc sport bikes out there. It undercuts the CFMoto 450SS by $400, the KTM RC 390 by $600, and the Aprilia RS 457 by a sizable $1,500. In addition, the 500 also spoils you with plenty of choices. Here’s how.

Coming to the Z500, it starts from $5,599–a $200 increment over the outgoing Z400–and goes up to $6,299 (SE version). Even with the hike, the naked is strongly positioned in the market. It slots right between the $5,399 CFMoto 450NK and the $5,899 KTM 390 Duke. There are only two variants available–standard and SE. The former is available in a Candy Lime Green color, while the latter comes in a Candy Persimmon Red option (with red wheels).

So what do you get for the money? For starters, both motorcycles employ a 451cc, twin-cylinder engine–first debuted on the Eliminator. As a result, the 500s churn out 51 horsepower and 31.7 pound-feet, where the former is more than all the arch-rivals (the RS 457, RC 390, and the 450SS). A six-speed transmission continues to help put the power down, while a slipper-clutch ensures the clutch action is light. Rider aids such as quickshifter, traction control, and ride modes all remain absent here, though.

Engine aside, the Ninja and Z both flaunt new designs over the 400s. The sport bike takes inspiration from the new ZX-6R to feature multi-element projector lamps and new fairings. Whereas, the naked bike has an all-new fascia with a distinct LED headlight and plastic cowls. Behind the bodywork lies a new LCD instrument cluster.
