Meet Harley-Davidson’s Fastest Bagger Yet – The 2024 CVO Road Glide ST

[ad_1]

Summary

  • The new CVO Road Glide ST is Harley-Davidson’s new flagship bagger for 2024.
  • It features fully adjustable Showa suspension, lighter alloy wheels, and petal disc brakes for improved riding dynamics.
  • Swanky forged carbon fiber accents, two bespoke color options, and an extensive range of features rounds off the package.

Last year, Harley-Davidson shook up the cruiser world with its revamped CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) lineup. The CVO Road Glide and Street Glide underwent a massive overhaul, making all of us think things couldn’t get any better. Yet, the American giant has revamped its CVO lineup, with a new-for-2024 CVO Road Glide ST. The cruiser is based on the CVO Road Glide, but packs extra performance and an array of exotic components. These help it become “the quickest, fastest, and most-sophisticated performance bagger ever produced by Harley-Davidson”. In the meantime, the RG and SG receive minor tweaks for 2024. Here’s everything you need to know.

Diving right in, the CVO Road Glide ST employs Harley’s new 1,982cc (121ci), V-twin engine. While we’ve seen the mill on the 2023 CVO lineup, the company has slapped on a Screamin’ Eagle performance exhaust to boost performance. As a result, the ST produces 127 horsepower and 145 pound-feet–the highest for a factory-fitted H-D engine yet and a whopping 12 ponies (and six pound-feet) up from the normal CVO Road Glide. In addition, Harley says it has lowered the final gear ratio of the six-speed transmission to boost acceleration.

With these figures, the ST surges ahead of its arch-rivals. It has 17 pound-feet more than the Indian Challenger Elite, while the Ducati Diavel V4 falls short by a massive 52 pound-feet. That said, the Triumph Rocket 3 one ups the ST with its 166 horsepower and 163 pound-feet.

Next up, underpinnings. The ST boasts fully adjustable 47 mm Showa upside-down forks and Showa shock absorbers (with adjustment knobs). This is topped by new multi-spoke alloy wheels and petal disc brakes–both said to reduce the unsprung mass over the non-ST model. Dimensionally, the ST sheds plenty of weight to tip the scales at 800 pounds–a sizable 25 less than the CVO Road Glide. So you’ll go faster, stop faster, and change directions faster. All this while, the trifecta of Brembo calipers, the double-cradle chassis, saddle height, and wheelbase all remain unchanged.

To round off the ST treatment, Harley-Davidson has given the Road Glide a standout aesthetic. You get swanky forged carbon fiber treatment on the front fender, tank console, exhaust tips, and pillion seat cowl, all of which look like a million bucks. Then, there’s the lightweight composite oil pan and the matte-finish on the Screamin’ Eagle exhausts for added pizazz.

What stands out most, though, are the two bespoke color options. The first–called Golden White Pearl–drapes the motorcycle in a gleaming white livery, while the second–Raven Metallic–comprises a deep satin black finish. Both options come with Sreamin’ Eagle graphics on the side, mimicking Harley-Davidson’s race bikes in the MotoAmerica King Of The Bagger series. On top of this, you also get red inserts on the air filter, cylinder heads, wheels, and even the saddle. Concurrently, all the key elements–a gigantic all-LED headlight, shark nose fairing, saddlebags–remain unchanged to keep the RG flavor alive.

Diving deeper, you now sit on what looks like a custom-stitched deep rider-only seat. It joins hands with a moto handlebar (mounted on a six-inch riser) to create a West Coast Style aggressive yet upright riding position. Once aboard, you’re greeted by the same 12.3-inch instrument cluster from the non-STO CVO duo. The screen gives you access to an array of features, such as:

  • Multiple ride modes (Road, Sport, Track, Track Plus, Rain, and Custom modes)
  • In-built navigation (via Apple CarPlay)
  • Cornering ABS
  • Traction control
  • Hill-hold
  • Cruise control
  • Rockford Fosgate Stage II 6.5-inch fairing speakers with 500-watt amplifier

You also get multiple storage compartments, each with a USB port to juice your devices.

Harley-Davidson has priced the 2024 CVO Road Glide ST at $42,999. This makes the bagger $1,500 cheaper than the non-ST CVO models. We know it’s still out of reach for many of us, but let’s not forget, Harley’s CVO range has always been for its premium customer base, all of which would certainly dig the smoking-hot ST. Aside from this, Harley-Davidson has also announced new colors for the 2024 CVO Road Glide and Street Glide. They now come in Copper Head and Legendary Orange colors. If either of these is in your budget, feel free to head to your nearest Harley dealership to check them out. That’s because the dispatch of Harley’s 2024 range is already underway.
