Footage of the search warrant shows police loading a Holden ute onto a truck, as well as investigating properties – with authorities explaining the charges relating to the suspects.
Queensland Police have charged and arrested several people on more than 50 charges, and issued more than 60 traffic infringement notices – all relating to hooning and anti-social behaviour.
The unnamed suspects – aged from 16 to 26 years old – are expected to face court, charged with possession and supply of dangerous drugs as well as dangerous operations of a vehicle and police evasion.
Authorities executed a search warrant during a police operation on local addresses of known suspects – located in the Queensland towns of Little Mountain, Beerwah, Tewantin and the Sunshine Coast suburb of Mons – on 10 January 2024.
In the body-cam footage – posted to the Queensland Police YouTube channel – officers can be seen loading a Holden Commodore ute onto a tow truck as investigators searched through different properties. Officers can also be heard explaining the charges behind the warrant.
“We will not tolerate hooning and anti-social behaviour on Sunshine Coast roads as it puts the driver and everyone else on the road in extreme danger,” Shane Panoho, the Officer in Charge of Highway Patrol Sunshine Coast said in a media statement.
The operation comes as Queensland has previously introduced one of Australia’s strictest anti-hooning laws – allowing police to fine spectators up to $6000 – while those caught behind the wheel actively engaging in hoon behaviour can face up to one-year imprisonment, a suspended/disqualified license and/or their car scrapped, according to previous Drive reports.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the investigations to contact police via Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 – or file an online report at the Queensland Police website.
