Segway’s New E-Bike Has More Torque Than The Ducati Panigale

[ad_1]

Summary

  • The Segway Xyber electric bike features a powerful 750W motor with 130 pound-feet of torque.
  • You get a maximum range of 48 miles with its 1.44 kWh battery, but can be extended to 95 miles with an additional battery pack.
  • Modern features such as smartphone connectivity and data monitoring come standard here.

Google ‘Segway’ and you’ll find hundreds of images of self-balancing two-wheelers. After all, that’s what made the American giant famous in the early 2000s. But since then, the company has branched out into many more interesting products. One of these is the just-revealed Xyber electric bike, touted as an off-road sport performance e-bike. There’s plenty to like, including the punchy motor with 130 pound-feet of torque (higher than a Ducati Panigale V4!).

Well, almost. But the 225-mile range is still mighty impressive

The Segway Xyber Electric Bike Has A 750W Motor

The Xyber employs a 750W hub-mounted motor. It’s good for 130 pound-feet of torque, all instantly reaching the rear wheel at the twist of the wrist. This enables a 0 to 20mph sprint in just 2.5 seconds–pretty spritely for an ‘e-bike’. Segway hasn’t revealed the all-out top speed, but we know the electric bike falls into the Class 2 (up to 20 mph) category (as seen in the battery stickers on the body).

The motor joins hands with a 1.44 kWh battery pack, said to be enough for 48 miles of maximum range. If that’s not enough, you can also plug in another battery pack to increase the total wattage to 2.88 kWh. Then, the range rises to 95 miles. Not to mention, the Xyber also has foot pedals, so you’ll never be stranded. There’s no word on the charging time for each battery.

Quality Suspension And Features Come Standard On The Segway Xyber Electric Bike

Besides the powerhouse, the Xyber feels like a full-sized motorcycle everywhere else. It is built around a double-cradle chassis, suspended on a full suspension package with upside-down forks and a monoshock for suspension duties. This, along with the spoke wheels and single disc brakes, all mimic entry-level dirt bikes. Even the tall handlebar and flat seat paint the same picture.

Then, there’s the set of modern features. The Xyber comes with:

  • LCD instrument cluster
  • Smartphone connectivity
  • Data monitoring and anti-theft measures
  • Active sense perception (automatically switches on lights, changes power mode, and locks the handlebar based on the scenario)
  • LED headlight
  • Fork covers
  • Hollow space for storage purposes
  • Two USB ports (type-A and type-C)

That’s pretty loaded by electric bike standards.

The electric bikes gain upside-down forks, more features, and chunkier wheels, among other things

The Segway Xyber broke cover at the 2024 CES, which confirms it’s certainly hitting American dealerships this year. However, the company hasn’t announced the MSRP or the full specifications. Decisive bits like charging time, standard equipment, and real-world range remain a mystery–all of which can make or break the product. Similarly, the price will play a key role, too. After all, this is a competitive segment with companies like Super73, Fuell, Magicycle, and Sur Ron already selling some great e-bikes.
