Ever since electric motorcycles came to life, they’ve always had a technological edge over their internal combustion engine counterparts. And if you’re a fan of tech-loaded motorcycles, Finnish bikemaker Verge has just the right thing for you. The startup has announced a sizable update for its already-popular TS Ultra e-motorcycle, which makes it even more innovative and safe at no extra cost. The announcement comes straight from CES 2024.
What’s New On The 2024 Verge TS Ultra Electric Motorcycle
The Verge TS Ultra was never short on features. It had a big touchscreen display for infotainment and a USB-equipped storage compartment, along with rider aids like traction control, four ride modes, cruise control, and anti-lock brakes. Yet, for 2024, the list has gotten even longer. The TS Ultra now comes equipped with Verge’s Starmatter software. It comprises four fundamentals–auto over-the-air updates (OTA), sensor technology, artificial intelligence, and a Human-Machine-Interface–to improve the motorcycle’s relationship with you. This is topped by another ground-breaking inclusion called Starmatter Vision.
The setup comprises six cameras all around the motorcycle for a 360-degree view of the surroundings. These cameras join hands with front and rear radars to unlock collision warnings and lane change assist. As an example, Verge says if there’s a fast-approaching car from the rear, you’ll receive a warning to give way. Or if there’s a stationary vehicle, you’ll get a warning about that too.
Interestingly, these warnings aren’t shown on the tank-mounted touchscreen. Instead, there’s a new display on the handlebar. Called Starmatter Dash, the TFT provides you with all the necessary functions while riding, accessible via dedicated switchgear. It even shows you the relevant camera view when you change lanes–a feature we’ve only seen on four-wheelers as of now. Once you stop, the large main display springs back to action to give you full control of the motorcycle. We can also see some minor design changes, as the side panels flex small aerodynamic wings and reworked shrouds for added brawn.
What’s Unchanged On The 2024 Verge TS Ultra Electric Motorcycle
Technological advancements aside, the TS Ultra remains unchanged. There’s an integrated hub motor inside the rear wheel, which pumps out 150kW (201 horsepower) and an insane 1,200Nm (885 pound-feet). These figures help the Ultra reach 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, while the top speed has been electronically restricted to 124mph. You also get a maximum claimed range of 233 miles in the city and 124 miles on the highway. Other notable details include:
- Ohlins suspension
- Brembo M4.32 calipers up top
- Galfer petal disc brakes
- 240-section rear tire
- 540-pound weight
