  • Top-quality components, including 41 mm USD forks, an offset monoshock, and 17-inch wheels with Brembo calipers, are all standard equipment.

Think entry-level naked motorcycles, and it’s a guarantee you’ll look at the KTM 390 Duke. For good reason too, as it has consistently fended off its rivals for a decade with a class-leading blend of technology, power, and extravagance. However, for 2024, there’s a new name the Duke needs to worry about: the FB Mondial Piega 452. The naked motorcycle has everything in its arsenal to come as bad news for the Duke, whether it’s a powerful engine or plenty of features. Heck, this one even has wings!

Oh, and in case you don’t know, FB Mondial is an iconic European bikemaker. It opened its doors in 1929 (95 years ago) and currently operates under the Piaggio umbrella (also the owner of Aprilia and Moto Guzzi). With that out of the way, let’s dive in.

Starting with the heart, FB Mondial has equipped the Piega with a 449cc, twin-cylinder engine. The powerhouse has an 11.5:1 compression ratio, liquid cooling, and a double overhead camshaft setup to churn out 47 horsepower and 28.8 pound-feet. All of it reaches the wheel via a six-speed transmission. Here, the horsepower is a few ponies up from the 2024 KTM 390 Duke, while the torque is right on par. The output is also on par with the updated Honda CB500 Hornet. Power aside, the engine breathes via a two-into-two exhaust–a rare occurrence in the segment.

As for underpinnings, the Piega 452 has no shortage of top-quality components. The suspension comprises 41 mm USD forks and an offset monoshock, paired with 17-inch wheels. The latter comes shod with 120/160-section (F/R) Pirelli Angel GT rubber–one up from the usual 110/150 combination. Braking, meanwhile, is via single disc brakes at both ends (each with Brembo calipers). It should be enough to slow down this 388-pound naked. More dimensions are present in the table below.

The FB Mondial Piega 452 Has An Aggressive Aesthetic

The mechanicals might or might not impress you, but the Piega’s USP is its features and design. You get a distinct dual-pod LED headlight up top, housed into a sporty cowl. This is followed by muscular tank extensions, alongside an even more brawny lower fairing. The latter incorporates the radiator shrouds and sport bike-like belly pan. Outback, there’s a sleek tail section with multi-purpose LEDs and a tire-mounted hugger.

Then, there’s the attention to detail. All the indicators have sequential lighting, while the bodywork integrates aerodynamic wings (officially dubbed Enhanced Aerodynamic Downforce). You also get a chunky wheel cover at the rear, which is a perfect sidekick to the single-sided swingarm. Mondial has two liveries for the Piega–deep blue with black accents and a bright white with red accents–each with golden forks.

As for features, the Piega 452 comes ripe with a big, rectangular TFT display. It gives you access to two ride modes, traction control, switchable ABS, and a suite of smartphone connectivity tidbits. Another neat touch is the set of premium graphics and display modes, even including a 3D model of the motorcycle. In addition, the handlebar flexes adjustable front brake and clutch levers, both partnered with premium backlit switchgear. Though a feature-loaded package, it still falls short of the 390 Duke’s package. Quickshifter, launch control, and cornering ABS are all standard bits on the KTM, which are absent on the Piega.

Like what you see? Then, buckle up for some bad news. FB Mondial revealed the 452 a few days back, and it’s yet to put a price or officially launch the motorcycle anywhere. To make matters worse, the company primarily operates in Europe and Britain only. It doesn’t have any presence in North America as of now, and neither is there a solid word on when we can expect Mondial here. You should also know FB’s motorcycles are built in China, under the Zongshen-Piaggio tie-up to keep costs in check. Not a deal-breaker, since Piaggio does the same for Aprilia bikes too.

If the Piega 452 were to arrive in America, how much would you pay for the naked? More importantly, would you consider it over the 390? Tell us in the comments.
