During Cyber Week in December 2021, the company unveiled the Tesla Cyberquad for Kids, a tiny, toned-down version of the electric ATV that was first introduced along with the Cybertruck back in 2019. Fast-forward one major safety recall and a couple of years later, and Tesla is once again offering the child-friendly four-wheeler with revised warning labels, as of November 2023. You might have guessed it, but this isn’t your average kid’s toy.

The Cyberquad (for kids) is particularly resilient, surprisingly capable, and notably suave-looking. 1 It Offers Two Different Drive-Modes

A Top Speed Of 10 MPH

The 500W motor allows you to reach a top speed of up to 10 mph. You can choose to limit this and opt for a tamer driving mode of five mph max. The emphasis on the Cyberquad being a children’s toy is thus abundantly clear, and Tesla further stresses that it is not an ATV for the youth. The revised warning label further specifies that the new 915 Model is not suitable for off-roading.

2 It’s Rather Pricey For A Kid’s Toy

The Cyberquad For Kids Costs Nearly $2,000

You might have guessed it, the Cyberquad is not the cheapest toy you can get your kid for Christmas. The tiny four-wheeler comes at $1,900, as you’re essentially paying for the technology, as well as the prestige that comes with the brand. Now, as you may know, ATVs for ages +9 were never really meant to be budget-friendly, and MSRPs can get way crazier than that.

This is also much cheaper than a four-wheeler for adults, which can cost a minimum of $6,000 to $7,000. 3 The Cyberquad For Kids Has Already Been Recalled

The Model 914 Was Pulled Out Due To Safety Concerns

• The rear spring beneath the seat was replaced with a steel tube with rubber-coated metal inserts.
• The front left fender now contains a tire inflation warning label.

What’s weirder than Tesla making kid toys? A kid’s toy getting recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Such was the case with the Cyberquad Model 914 in 2022, after failing to comply with the federal mandatory safety standards for youth ATVs. The electric four-wheeler was notably flagged for its mechanical suspension, maximum tire pressure, and lack of a CPSC-approved ATV action plan.

This led to The CPSC and Radio Flyer both urging consumers to immediately stop using the Cyberquad. Radio Flyer also issued a full $1,900 refund if you returned your Cyberquad For Kids along with its motor controller, without the need to show a receipt. Of course, you could also choose to keep it to yourself, as this little scandal immediately made it a sought-after commodity.

4 It Is More Capable Than Advertised

It Can Carry A Grown Man With Ease

Do not let the tiny frame of the Cyberquad fool you, it is relatively robust! On paper, the 120-pound toy is capable of carrying a 150-pound driver without any struggle. But in reality, it exceeds that estimate. In March 2022, Electrek published a review, detailing that the Cyberquad Model 914 was perfectly capable of carrying a grown man above that weight range.

To spice things up, the small ATV was even put at 30-percent grade. The result? It is perfectly capable of dragging an adult at that angle, although it is more suited for kids, one might argue. The manufacturer also advises against using the Cyberquad on uneven or wet surfaces. Per Tesla’s instructions, the minimum recommended age is 9–12 years old for the new 915 Model, a slight increase over the 8+ age requirement of the 914 Model that suffered a recall in 2022.

5 The Range Is Very Limited

If you’re wondering how far the Cyberquad for kids can go, well, let’s say it’s not rivaling the Lucid Air anytime soon. However, it should be enough to cover your kid’s little escapades. The 36-volt lithium-ion battery is good for 15+ miles of range, or about one hour of runtime.

However, these figures depend on the users’s weight, as well as the driving conditions, riding terrain, and speed. The bottom of the battery is equipped with a charging port. Recharging the Cyberquad from empty can take up to five hours. The charger is designed to operate on standard household electrical power (100/240V AC), so we would advise against plugging it into a Level 3 DC Fast Charger.

6 It Has Got The Cybertruck Genes In Its Build

Recently, Bikes and Beards posted a video where it put the Cyberquad through the wringer, using all the aforementioned objects. The vehicle endured a few dents and scratches but remained perfectly operational. The cherry on top? The steel frame is even resilient to arrows shot from both a bow and arrow and a crossbow.

7 It Looks Like A Proper Off-Roading Badass

Tesla is known for a bunch of things, and making interesting-looking vehicles is one of them. For better or worse, the company always opts for daring styling choices. The Cyberquad is not immune to that doctrine. If you were to look at the photos without prior context, you wouldn’t think that the ATV was built for small children, until you took a look at the dimensions that is.

The sharp edges and aggressive demeanor do not fit the typical depiction of a toy. The steel frame, reminiscent of the Cybertruck, is enhanced with LED headlights and headlights and mounted on high-pressure rubber air tires, giving it the appearance of a proper off-roader, even if it isn’t one.

8 It Was Made In Partnership With Radio Flyer

Radio Flyer Has Been Making Toys For Over A Century

• The Cyberquad For Kids is Tesla’s third ride-on toy to be released in partnership with Radio-Flyer.

The Cyberquad For Kids is the result of a joint venture between Tesla Studios, and Radio Flyer, which is known for its Little Red Wagon, and tiny tricycle. Radio Flyer has been in the toy-making business since 1917 and is the exclusive ride-on toy partner for Tesla. The partnership between the two companies extends back to the last decade.

In 2017, the pair produced a lithium-ion battery-powered Model S ride-on, which is still available to this day, for a starting price of roughly $499.99. The duo also offers a tiny Tesla Model Y, starting at $89.99, although this one is far from having SUV proportions, and is made for kids ranging from 1.5-4 years old.

The Cyberquad For Kids Sold Out On Its Very First Day

While the Cyberquad was introduced as an afterthought to the Cybertruck, it eventually ended up beating it to the market. So, while the bigger, and badder off-roader was suffering one production delay after another, the tinier four-wheeler was finding its way into the hands of smaller customers.

Sure, this isn’t the ATV adults were initially promised in 2019, but it nonetheless did well. The battery-powered, half-sized four-wheeler sold out 5,000 examples in one day, before going out of stock. In light of the overwhelming demand, and lack of supply, some people took to re-selling the Cyberquad For Kids at exorbitant prices that far exceeded the original MSRP. Luckily, this time around, it seems Tesla has enough units for everyone.

10 Tesla Had Even Teased The Cyberquad For Grown-Ups

The Bigger ATV Was Initially Introduced As A Cybertruck Accessory

As previously mentioned, the idea of a Cyberquad was initially brought up in 2019. Back then, the vehicle had much bigger proportions and was introduced as an add-on accessory for the Cybertruck. The electric ATV strolled down the stage, driven by a grown adult, with the aura of a real trailblazer. The latter harbored hints of the Yamaha Raptor 700, which costs roughly $10,000.

Again, we don’t know the price of the bigger Cyberquad, but it’s safe to say that it will cost a pretty penny. Fast-forward half a decade later, and we have yet to hear anything about the Tesla four-wheeler for adults.

The company has been rather silent about its big electric ATV over the last five years. Although Elon Musk briefly mentioned the ATV in a shareholder meeting in 2021, he did not offer any details about when the production would start. But then again, Tesla is known for not sticking to the production deadlines it sets, so there’s really no telling if we’ll see the adult version of the Cyberquad any time soon.
